It all started in 1991 when I arrived in California with a suitcase full of dreams, a heart full of fear, and a strong desire to succeed, fueled by the energy of a young man with limited opportunities, no experience in this country, no command of the language, and no idea which direction to take. But I was determined that opportunities are forged through effort, discipline, and a little talent.
I went around to neighborhoods offering my gardening services, knocking on doors to clean trees, prune trees, mow lawns, and offer garden maintenance. I offered, and sometimes almost begged, people to let me clean their gardens. It was all full of difficulties due to the language barrier. Ten years passed, and I continued fighting against the current, carving out a space for myself, meeting people some helpful, others a hindrance but never giving in to failure. Sometimes I was a victim of bad decisions, other times a victim of my own feelings, because I saw in other people the difficulties I had experienced firsthand. Knowing this, I never left anyone without help.
That forged my character, gave me maturity, and filled me with many battles won, some lost, and others drawn. It encouraged me to keep going. I managed to put together a team committed to the needs of our clients. We started growing very slowly, and then God sent me an angel named George, who offered his help by teaching my team and me how to work with concrete professionally, using state-approved techniques. We became his apprentices, with George being a pioneer at that time in a company that enjoyed an abundance of work, and us with a thirst to learn and succeed.
As we progressed, working hand in hand with George, we didn't become competitors; we became a larger team with more capacity and a wider range of coverage. We move forward in life, and here we are, becoming a benchmark brand: JJL Landscaping Inc.
